Enjoy The First Class Traveller.
Here’s a pithy, thought-provoking piece from the pen of Turriff-based author and publisher extraordinaire Cally Phillips. The problem of the baggage that can accompany us wherever we go is one that will be very familiar to many of us.

Here’s a wee Easter Monday treat from McStorytellers. In her latest short story written in Scots, Gonnae No Dae That, the normally vocal Cally Phillips promises to stay silent from now on until Scotland regains her land, her language (sorry, leid) and her independence.
And if you enjoy the story, you might want to nip over to the unco online bookstore for more like it in That’s No You, the recently published paperback compilation of all Cally’s stories in Scots. Highly recommended by McStorytellers! It’s Wednesday, McSerial day on McStorytellers and time for the not-to-be-missed final instalment of our serialisation of Another World is Possible, Cally Phillips’ enigmatic novel dedicated to the memory of Che Guevara.
The story so far has been constructed like a Russian doll. There have been puzzles within riddles within a conundrum. Who is narrating the story? Who is Roisin? Does she even exist? And is she really Che’s lovechild? Episode Fifteen deconstructs the doll to provide some astonishing answers. Don’t worry if you’ve missed any of the earlier episodes. You can catch up with them simply by tapping (or using your cursor to hover over) Oor McSerials in the left-hand sidebar and then following the trail. Alternatively, you can nip over to the unco online bookstore and get your hands on a copy of the latest paperback edition of Another World is Possible, recently re-released to mark the 50th anniversary of Che Guevara’s murder. Last summer, an unassuming loon from Macduff by the name of Pat Hutchison made his McStorytellers debut with a spooky tale entitled The Seven Coins o Kinnedart. Since then, Pat has had another five stories published on the site. While one was similarly spooky, one was heart-breaking and the others were imbued with that bone-dry humour of the North-East of Scotland, uniquely all six stories were written in what Pat calls the Banffshire Doric – and were all the more enjoyable for that.
After reading the first couple of those stories, fellow-McStoryteller Cally Phillips, who runs the Turriff-based Deveron Press, recognised Pat’s obvious storytelling talent (as we did) and quickly got in touch with him. We’re delighted to announce today that the outcome of Cally’s contact is the publication of a collection of twenty-six of Pat’s short stories, all penned in his beloved native Doric. Sanners Gow’s Tales and Folklore of the Buchan will be launched in May, but pre-publication signed copies can be ordered now from the unco online bookstore for delivery by 20th April. This book deserves a place on the bookshelf alongside the cream of North-East Scottish writers. McStorytellers. Proud to give the wee folk a voice.
